Point-In-Time Counts

Point-In-Time Counts

Point-In-Time Count 2017 Overview

The Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is an annual measurement required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for nationwide data gathering purposes.

Every year, Philadelphia, with the support of hundreds of volunteers, conducts a PIT Count of all persons experiencing homelessness on the streets, in shelters, and in other temporary housing. Given the all-inclusive nature of the count, the results are used extensively on both the local and national levels to inform vital budget and planning decisions and to advocate for more resources.

The PIT Count is planned for and executed by the Office of Homeless Services, the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services, Project HOME, Valley Youth House, and the Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center.
