Basic Information

Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) offers a comprehensive Harm Reduction Outreach Program designed to support individuals experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders. This program provides a variety of services, including:

  • Syringe Exchange: Facilitating the safe exchange of used syringes to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
  • Auricular Acupuncture Detox: Offering acupuncture treatments to assist in detoxification and promote relaxation.
  • Peer Education and Prevention: Conducting educational sessions to raise awareness about substance use and related health risks.

These services are delivered by certified Harm Reduction Specialists at the AHCH campus and through multiple outreach sites across Bernalillo County. The program operates using an integrative model in conjunction with AHCH's medical, dental, social services, and case management programs, ensuring a holistic approach to care
